Welcome to 1MG.
We are a class of 26 children with two teachers, Mrs McClue and Miss Gilchrist.
In Year 1, we will be learning lots of exciting new skills, through maths, writing and topic. We will also be learning reading skills through Read Write Inc.
Our Autumn Term topic is “Ourselves”. During this topic, among many other things, we will learn about changes, the human body and healthy eating.
We look forward to sharing what we get up to.
Things to remember
September
We have all settled well into our new class and being in KS1. We have started as we mean to go on and it has been a busy first month.
For the first two weeks we did lots of activities based on the book “Room on the Broom” by Julia Donaldson.

We have started our topic about ‘Ourselves’ and have labelled parts of the body, drawn self-portraits and thought about how we have changed. Lots of us brought baby pictures in to share and we look forward to doing some more work based around these soon.
Many of us have got involved in extra-curricular activities and have joined a variety of after school clubs.
We shared our first piece of ‘Star Work’ in assembly. Well done Patryk and everyone who was brave enough to speak in assembly about why his maths work was so good.
Watch out for what we get up to in October ...
October
This month we continued our topic on “Ourselves” and shared our baby pictures with the class.
We went on a walk around the local area. Everyone looked at the buildings and signs and acted as shape detectives. The leaves were beginning to change colour and fall from the trees as a sign of Autumn. We went past the old infant school where the building was being knocked down. Some of the grown-ups felt very sad!
We have been working hard on becoming more confident writers.
On the last day of October we held a Baptism with 1NR. Our baby was called Rosie Elizabeth. Everyone joined in with the celebration.
November
We have continued to be busy learning lots of new things and getting better at others.
In PE we have started to create our own class dance. Watch this space for a performance of how we have got on so far.
Mrs Mobeen came to visit us and help us learn about how the birth of a baby is celebrated in a different faith. What she told us was very different to the Baptism celebration that we had.
We have watched the leaves fall from the trees as Winter approaches. Who can believe it? We’re nearly at the end of our first term in Year 1! We are busy learning our songs for the Christmas concert and looking forward to Christmas itself.
December
December in school has just flown by! We have been busy doing lots of “Christmassy” things and getting ready for a well earned rest.
We have taken part in our class spiral, walked to the church to take part in the Christingle service and starred in the KS1 and Foundation Stage production of “Lights, Camel, Action!”
From Mrs McClue, Miss Gilchrist, Mrs Drakes and all of 1MG, we wish you a very MERRY CHRISTMAS and a HAPPY NEW YEAR!
Happy Easter from 1MG!
(Not all of us wanted to be videoed so some of us are missing!)
