1TB Mrs Brown

Welcome back to school after the summer holidays, we hope you all had a magical time and enjoyed the break and made lots of memories.

We will be learning some exciting new things this half term and I hope you’re looking forward to your being in Key Stage One

Our Autumn Topic - Ourselves

This term we are learning all about ourselves. We will be asking the question What makes me, me?

To begin with, as part of transition we will be looking at the ‘Room on the Broom’ story by Julia Donaldson and her other books such as The Gruffalo

We will then be learning about ourselves which will include keeping healthy, how our body works, our family history and our environment. As part of this we are inviting our Grandparents into school to talk about life as a child in the past and to compare it to modern day life. If grandparents are interested in this event please contact us.

As artists we will be looking at portraits by various artists and creating our own self-portraits. We will be using our painting and colour mixing skills to do this.

We will also be looking at how the seasons change and how if effects the weather and our environment.

Homework

It is the expectation that the children in Year 1 will read at least 3 times a week at home. They can read anything such as their RWI book, menus, adverts on the television, street signs, magazines. As long as it is recorded in their Reading Records then it counts.

RWI books to read, also spellings and Beat That. These will be sent out on a weekly basis.

PE days are Monday with Mrs Strong. Please ensure the children bring the correct PE uniform and remove or cover earrings prior to the lesson.
