Welcome to 5JM – taught by Mrs Masterson (Mon-Thurs) and Mrs Keighley (Fri)
Key dates for your diary - Wednesday is our outdoor PE session with our indoor hall session programmed in for a Thursday. Year 5 are leading the Harvest Festival on 3rd October, so please come along and share in our celebrations. We will be having a weekly spelling test on a Thursday with spellings given out a week in advance to allow plenty of time to learn. Beat That and CLIC tests will be completed on a Wednesday and don’t forget that along with these two, you are expected to read at least 3 times a week. Mrs Keighley will be checking your child’s diary on a Friday. Please encourage your child to bring their reading book and diary daily.
Our topic this term is living things and their habitats. This will include a visit from Sam’s Safari into school. This visit will include a selection of animals that the children might not otherwise be able to see/come into contact with. This should be a fun day!
Throughout this topic we will be looking at evolution and how different species have adapted to their habitats as well as looking at life cycles. We will be investigating soil and its impact on growing things. Our English focus will be the novel Skellig, which we will then compare the book to the film along with looking at poetry by William Blake.I look forward to meeting you all on parents evening and thank you for your continued support!
