Federation Governance

The Governors’ role is a strategic one; setting the federation’s aims and values, planning the schools’ long-term direction and evaluating progress. They support, ask challenging questions and promote on-going improvements. 


The Governors are a committed group of volunteers who readily give of their time and energy for the benefit of our schools’ communities. They include parents, staff and members of our local communities.

Each Governor is elected for a term of office which usually lasts four years.


All our Governors serve the full board of the Westcliffe and Priory Lane Federation and also on sub-committees which meet each term.  They attend governor training sessions.

  • Monitors and evaluates pupil achievement and the quality of teaching, ensuring the school provides a high quality learning experience and delivers a broad and balanced curriculum in keeping with the schools’ aims, all pupil needs and legal requirements.



  • Manages and controls the financial affairs of the schools

  • Maintains and develops the schools’ premises, ensuring they are a safe, secure and healthy environment for all school activities

  • Manages the recruitment, working conditions and performance of all the schools’ staff


    Performance Management:

  • This committee has delegated responsibility to carry out the performance management process for the Headteacher on an annual basis.
